Schachtbau Nordhausen GmbH

Leading-edge technology for the environment

From our beginnings as a traditional provider of specialist services to the mining industry, we have developed since German reunification in 1990 into a modern, internationally aligned technology company located in the heart of Germany.

Since 1992 we have been a member of the BAUER Group, Schrobenhausen.

Based on the company’s many years of experience in large-scale turnkey construction projects and its traditional know-how in engineering, construction techniques, structural steel, pipe work and plant manufacture,

SCHACHTBAU undertook its first projects in the environmental technology field in 1993.

In response to continually rising demand, a separate Environmental Technology division was established in 1994. Since then, more than 200 environmental projects have been successfully completed.

The German Renewable Energies Act (EEG) established the foundations for achieving the ambitious target of covering at least 20 percent of total energy demand in Germany from renewable energy sources by the year 2020. One of the key areas in achieving this will be the generation of power and heat from biogas, for which SCHACHTBAU NORDHAUSEN GmbH is constructing turnkey plants and supplying and installing specialist components.

These components, representing the core of the overall turnkey plant, are slim-design welded steel digesters with diameter-to-height ratios of < 1 as well as technical containers which house the central equipment, as well as instrumentation and control systems and special walking-floor feeding systems.

Intelligent concepts in our core operating range above 200 kW electrical power output and 1,000 to 6,000 m³ digester sizes are aimed at achieving maximum cost-effectiveness.

While the technical container and the walking floor “merely” consist of highly compact yet user-friendly designs, the high-rise digester is capable of achieving gas yields of between 25 and 30 percent above the industry norm, combined with a relatively low energy input.
